Root Cause

On 13 March 2026 the Nigeria Data Protection Commission publicly warned platform owners including X, TikTok, and Meta that it would impose sanctions under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 if they failed to enforce community guidelines against unconsented filming of the public - a compliance warning, not an active or announced ban.
