Parliament passed the bill in 2023, but the repeal did not actually come into legal force until 10 September 2025 (timed to World Suicide Prevention Day) - so for roughly two years, attempted suicide remained nominally a chargeable offense despite widespread reporting that it had already been decriminalized. As of now, attempting suicide is not a crime anywhere in Malaysia.
